It is the
only product known that will not damage your skin or any surface it is
used on.When using the natural sea sponge for personal hygiene, the pores
of the skin are opened, allowing it to breath and facillitating the blood
circulation. Cosmeticians universally agree that silk sponges are the
most appropriate for facial and infant care. The natural sea sponge when
properly rinsed after every use, will last for years. Sponges are harvested
with the old traditional way of diving. Expert divers dive to depths up
to 60 - 70 meters, selecting only the best and full grown sponges. Since
the pricing of sponges by our export house is based sully on the quality
of the sponge and no price is offered for lesser qualities. This insures
that only the best sponges come to the surface. Leaving the small sponges
to grow for next year's harvest. This method also protects the aquatic
environment which the divers depend for their livelihood |
After the
harvesting, the boats arrives once a year (usually end of September till
the end of October) in the island and the sponges are weighed classified.
Then the processing starts (as described above). Each sponge is handled
individually by very experianced workers, usually retired sponge divers
that refuse to just sit or do any other job, then the sponges which brings
them closer to the ocean they so much love. Because of the nature of the
product and that no two sponges are alike, there is no modern method or
any automatic machine that can help in the process. IT'S ALL DONE BY HAND.
